Demo-Slideshows + Tips & Tricks + Help-Videos

Baltic Sea 2017

The video is a recording of a live slideshow in 1080p / 60fps. High quality, but here much less quality, as the bit rate for 'online' playback is reduced to 4Mbps.

Baltic Sea 2017

Live slideshow in full HD with excellent manual controllability. Download -> unzip -> playback with DSS-4K.

Fuerteventura 2018

The video is a recording of a live slideshow in 1080p/60fps. High quality, but here reduced to a online quality of 4Mbps.
(Original: Fuerteventura-2018.mp4 1,6GB)

Fuerteventura 2018

Live slideshow in 4K with excellent manual controllability.
The original files had an even higher resolution and were exported with 4K.

Tipps & Tricks

Text with different formatting:
For different formatting of individual lines, this can be preceded by a 'formatting string', e.g. '55iubm # Hello World' -> 55% font size, 'i' -> italic (italics), 'u' -> underline (underlined), 'b' -> bold, 'm' -> 'memory' (Formatting is also used for subsequent lines), 'n' -> delete 'memory' again.

Colored text page background:
Multiple text pages can be added to each photo/video. On the first page, a background color (with adjustable transparency) for the entire screen can be set by a repeated click on the 'background button'. This background then remains valid for all subsequent text pages of this file.

Transfer text format:
'F5' saves all current text parameters while the text window is active. With 'F6' this can then be transferred to other text.
'SHIFT' + 'F6' will transfer the subtitle format to 'normal' text. This means that multi-page 'subtitles' - even mixed with other text - are also possible on photos. But since these are not real UT, they are then logically always displayed, even if subtitles are disabled in the preferences.
With 'SHIFT' + 'CTRL' + 'F6' also the current UT format is reset to the default setting at the same time.

If you hold down CTRL when clicking on the text button, subtitles can be entered (normal text is not possible). The formatting of the text is limited and applies to the entire slideshow.
For photos, only one subtitle can be specified at a time, the display duration is tied to the image. For videos several UTs can be set to the appropriate places.
(certainly rarely used, but then very useful)
In the event that a subtitle is needed for virtually every file:
* you can create a file 'ut.txt' in the slideshow directory, each line can contain a subtitle. By holding 'Ctrl' while opening a slideshow ('OPEN'), this file is read in and the subtitles are placed in the appropriate places.
* even more comfortable: you export the subtitles finished slideshow as 'subtitels' -> to 'Ctrl' hold the 'click' on 'EXPORT'.In the export folder then all thumbnails are numbered in ascending order and contain a file 'ut.txt'. In this case, all lines in which normal text was entered are marked with 'TXT', in all other lines the UT corresponding to the respective thumbnail can be entered very easily and quickly.
For editing the 'ut.txt' we recommend an editor with line numbers (eg Notepad ++), because there is a direct reference to the thumbnail numbering. But it is also a normal word processor usable. The encoding must be done in UTF-8 (which is standard), otherwise the loading of the slideshow will cause an error message.

To do this, DSS-4K simply pushes with the movie-credits transition an image file vertically through the screen, which can be created with any photo graphics program. The png format is recommended because it is lossless and allows transparency in the background. The recommended width is 1280px, but can be higher for 4K playback and powerful hardware (to avoid jerking).

'Top Secret'
This function is unofficial, as there are many limitations. If these do not bother you, it will work great with the 'Direct Preview'.
When shooting with a slanted horizon, this can be easily corrected with the 'rotate' and 'zoom' functions of DSS-4K, which work very fine while the 'Ctrl' key is held down. Of course, when exporting for other purposes, the recordings are still rotated, since the files are always used in the original.
But if you hold down the 'CTRL' key when saving the file (toolbar full screen), a 'screen shot' will be made and the original file will be replaced (this will be moved to the subfolder 'originals' for safety).
This process can be reversed by holding 'CTRL' again when the file is recalled.
Disadvantages can be:
- the resolution only corresponds to the screen resolution (therefore preferably use 4K TV or monitor)- the format always corresponds to the set screen format (for example 16: 9)
The use is therefore only useful if the desired output resolution corresponds to a possible screen resolution and you need the files for other applications.

DSS-4K is optimized for playback control with a normal wireless mouse. Especially when using a beamer, the using of a presenter with an integrated laser pointer, is often advantageous.
To be able to use the presenter, first register it in the 'main screen' with the lower right button (the play button of DSS-4K flashes orange).

Normally, it is easiest to copy all necessary photo, video and music files directly into a folder and then select it with 'NEW'.
For larger projects, it may also be advisable to work with thematically sorted subfolders and then add the files piece by piece in the storyboard.
If there is not a single media file directly in the main folder, hold down the 'CTRL' key when selecting the folder.

When exporting a finished slideshow, only the currently used files are copied to a new folder.
Optionally, the resolution can be reduced and photos and videos can be rotated in normal orientation (if the files are exported for another application and there not automatically corrected there as with DSS-4K).
The 'orig.-size' option recodes photos in their current resolution. This can reduce large file sizes in some cases, without the loss of quality on the screen (recordings with very low compression).
A renumbering process allows the files to be sorted in the correct order on other devices. For Android, for example, to select 'descending'.
DSS-4K can not export the entire slideshow itself as 'video', but of course the included video clips in original resolution. But a slideshow can be recorded in real time up to 1080p / 60fps via the 'Microsoft Game Console' in very good quality (instruction)

Videos can be cut using the green/red marker of the transport control. It is even finer with the numeric fields 'start' / 'end', where you can set the values directly with the mouse wheel (with + SHIFT finer, + CTRL very fine).
Normally, the transition to the next file begins 2s before the end of the video. To avoid this in special applications, the red marker can also be moved past the end position while holding down the right shift key.
The files themselves are preserved in their full length, but are shortened accordingly during an export.

New Slideshow

Create a new Slideshow

DSS-4K also creates from hundreds of photos and videos within 2 seconds high quality slideshows.
They are instantly live playable (video programs require multiple video lengths - often 10-20x at 4K - and that by every change).
Main strength is the live play mode, but also videos can be generated up to 1080p/60 by live recording in very good quality.

Interactiv Play-Mode

DSS-4K offers also a much better interactivity than a video.
During breaks, the background music continues plays unobtrusively with a reduced volume and without a hard 'break', so that you can respond very well to the audience.
With the integrated quick navigation, you can get to any place of the slideshow immediately.

In the Quicksort view, the files can be easely reordered and sorted out using advanced drag and drop.
You can also view file information and set chapters.
Of particular advantage is the ability to switch to full-screen mode and back again at any time with a right-click.

Here you can directly compare the files in full size, scroll through the slideshow with the mouse wheel and remove inappropriate files immediately.
Furthermore, the transitions between the files, display duration, zoom, frame, transparency, texts as well as subtitles and the background sound can be defined.
